Honey Fungus

by Paul Ward - Honey Fungus exists in several forms. It is unusual in the natural world in behaving as a saprophyte (decaying the dead wood) and as a parasite when it actually kills its host. Usually found in clusters or troops near the base of trees and spreading by spores and by its ‘bootlaces’ – long thin blackish strands splitting and rejoining, travelling across the ground between tree hosts or especially along fallen logs.
